About the work
This picture was taken in 1900 on the beach of Blankenberge, Belgium. Even at the beginning of the 20th century, the Belgian coast attracted lots of tourists in summer. This image was originally shot in black and white, but a special technique called 'photochrom' was used to colorize this image and give it this exclusive and historic character.
With over fifty years experience in the photography business, The "Archiv f?¬r Kunst und Geschichte" (AKG) is one of the largest European picture archives holding a total of ten million plus images. For more than fifty years they have been collecting images from all over the world as testimonies of art and culture, history and politics, science and media.
