About the work
This picture depicts a row of young women, each from a different US state, cheering for the female competitors. The shot was taken on the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA. At that time only 126 out of 1332 competitors were women. These Olympics were overshadowed by the Great Depression, which caused that many nations and athletes were unable to pay for the trip to Los Angeles.
